I was lucky enough to win two tickets to the Cape Dairy Event that took place the past weekend at Sandringham Wine Estate. Regular readers of my blog will know that I love festivals such as The Cheese Festival, The Olive Festival, etc, so this was a wonderful win for me!
Hubs and I went on Saturday, 3 November. Seeing as he’s from a farm, hubs enjoyed all the farm implements a lot and I must admit that I would have loved to sit in one of those big tractors, but they were unfortunately locked. He also enjoyed the cows and the goats.
There were a wide variety of stalls. At the Worcester Museum’s stall they were doing demonstrations on how to make butter!
Of course most of our time was spent at the cooking demonstrations! The first one we attended was by Davide Ostuni from Puglia Cheese where he demonstrated how to make mozzarella cheese. Davide made extremely nice goodies with this fresh mozzarella as well as a delicious risotto and we were lucky enough to taste!
The second demonstration that we attended was hosted by Errieda du Toit and Cara Brink. Cara made lemon ice cream which was delicious and I am definitely going to try the recipe. Errieda made baby toffee apples, similar to what I have done here. She also made some toffee grapes which would look great on the Christmas table next to a gammon. Cara also made some stewed pears that were served with a cambrini. Everything was devine!
I was also fortunate enough to win a cheese hamper from Karoo Goat’s Milk Products. I cannot wait to find time to start experimenting with these cheeses, so watch this space!
A firm favourite of mine is deep fried haloumi 😉
And of course brie on rye 😉
Glad you enjoyed the show PPD!
