Cape Town Good Food and Wine Show

Cape Town Good Food and Wine Show

We went to the Good Food and Wine show on Friday, 25 May. As always it was wonderful. This is one event on the Cape Town Calendar that I don’t want to ever miss! Just think about it: Wonderful wine, delicious food, food demonstrations from the best local and international chefs and all the latest food gadgets, under one roof!

Walking into the show, we could hardly get in… and why? Pete Goffe-Wood, was (as always) doing a demonstration at the Sea Harvest stand. He has been doing this for at least the past three years, but I could hear everybody saying either: “That is Pete Goffe-Wood from Master Chef” or “That is the Master chef Guy!!!!” I have known Pete for years, since he cooked in the Bayside Mall (with Jenny Morris) about ten years ago and I always thought that he is THE MASTER CHEF and a master entertainer!!

Jenny Morris was also in her element at the Spekko Rice stall!

The Giggling Gourmet

The star of this year’s show was The cake Boss aka Buddy Valastro and therefore one of the highlights of the show was four of Cape Town’s best patisseries specializing in making cakes, that were having a competition in making  and decorating a cake best illustrating what Channel 186 (TLC channel) means to women. The cakes were amazing!! I could not keep myself from going back and back to this part of the show! …and here were some of the competitors:

.and the winner, Vanilla House, with their wonderful cake:

I just loved this cake from Kanya Hunt, all decorated with chocolate:

The best dish that I have tasted was Breyani made by Malika van Reenen, executive chef at the Cape Grace hotel Signal Restaurant!  She demonstrated this at the “Foods from around the World Teatre” and promised to e-mail the recipe to me.

Reza Mahammad, giving a demonstration of the flavours of India:

This was once again one of my happiest days ever!
