When I started blogging three and a half years ago, it was with the sole intention to share my recipes online with my family and friends. Only my closest friends and family knew who the face behind PinkPolkaDot was. I never intended to meet any blogger in real life. (After all I regularly warned my children to never meet anyone for real that they had met through the internet!)
I started my blogging on Food24 and was immediately welcomed into the blogging community, not only by food bloggers, but by bloggers across the Media24 community. I was amazed that my blog became as popular as it did in such a short time!
I was invited to lots of MOBS (Meeting of Bloggers functions), but still decided to keep my private life separate from my blog life! The first blogger I met in real life was Nina Timm from My-Easy-Cooking. Nina was also one of the people that inspired me to start blogging with her beautiful pictures and mouth-watering recipes! After meeting Nina, I met a lot of fellow bloggers, mostly food bloggers, and found most of them to be wonderful people.
When Anne Myers of Two Blonds and a Red head filming, announced her intention to make a TV show featuring Food Bloggers, I was very hesitant to participate. At the time our inspirational message on my blackboard in our kitchen (written by me) was: “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”! Naturally my children and husband told me to practice what I preach, and so my amazing Dinner Diva experience began!
The show is not a big-budget show; otherwise it would be aired at night on prime time. It is what is called a sponsored show, so the sponsors are very prominent. Although the show is a small budget-production it was created by a very talented production team, produced by the highly skilful and competent Anne Myers. The other blond of Two Blonds and a Red head filming is Michéle Coleman, who is also the beautiful and very capable presenter of the show. Michéle is also the composer of the I-love-cooking blog.
Our first Dinner Diva meeting was months ago at the Upper East-side Hotel in Cape Town. Although I knew a lot of the contestants already, I met the production crew for the first time. The eleven other contestants just blew me away, since they were all wonderful, optimistic people with a zest for life. We almost immediately clicked because we all shared a passion for food.
The first episode aired on Saturday, 13 October 2012 and showed two of the best food bloggers in South Africa competing. Nina Timm (My-easy-cooking) prepared a colourful Mexican family dish while Kristy Snell (Food-monger) made fillet steak with all the trimmings!
Nina is an excellent cook and like I have stated above, has a very inspirational food blog. She also features weekly on RSG, every Thursday and is known as the “Kuberkok” (Cyber Chef). She is a professional food stylist and food photographer.

Kristy Snell studied BA Honours in Film Studies at the University of the Western Cape and is also a professional food stylist. I met Kristy for the first time at Dinner Divas and immediately got the impression of a vibrant and talented young lady.
Although I adore Kristy and her skills in the kitchen (and behind the computer), I was rooting for Nina! I was; however, very happy when it was announced that they are both going through to the second round because I think they are both very brilliant.
I enjoyed the first show a lot, but I know I am biased and therefore I spoke to more than twenty of my family members and friends that watched the show and they all agreed that it is a wonderful show with many calling it entertaining yet classy. My friends and I admire all of the judges featured on the show although we didn’t always agree with their judgements and comments. But further there were minimal complaints.
The next episode airs on Saturday, 20 October 2012, at 08:30 on SABC2.
